Find My on Apple Watch: one app arrives in watchOS 27
Find My on Apple Watch is one app as of this week. watchOS 27 arrived on Monday 14 September 2026 and folded Find Devices, Find People and Find Items into a single map-led screen, so a tracker on your keys is now two taps from a raised wrist rather than buried in a separate app. Here is what changed, which watches receive it, and what a Bluetooth tag can genuinely do from there.
What watchOS 27 changed
Three apps became one. MacRumors reported the consolidation on 9 June 2026, describing a redesign built around the map as the main way to move between tracked people, devices and accessories. Before this, the watch carried Find Devices, Find People and Find Items as separate icons, which meant guessing which one held the thing you were looking for.
The switch between the three categories now sits behind an icon in the top left of the screen, as iDownloadBlog set out in a walk-through on 1 July 2026. Everything else is a map with your items on it.
9to5Mac, writing on 9 September 2026, confirmed both the release date and the hardware that can take it. The update reached watches on Monday 14 September.
Which watches get the new app
| Model | watchOS 27 | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Series 9 and later | Yes | The single Find My app |
| Ultra 2 and later | Yes | The single Find My app |
| Apple Watch SE 3 | Yes | The single Find My app |
| Older models | No | The three separate finding apps as before |
A watch that cannot take the update is not cut off from anything. It keeps Find Items exactly as it was, with the same list and the same controls. The change is the shape of the software, not the reach of the network behind it.
The new watches ride the same wave. Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 were announced on 9 September and reach shops on Friday 18 September, according to MacRumors' account of the event.
What a tag can do from your wrist
This is the part that matters if you own a certified tracker rather than Apple's own.
You can ring it. The Items section carries the alert-sound control, so a tag within Bluetooth reach of the watch will sound. That is the single most useful thing a wrist can do, because the common search is a domestic one: the keys are in the house, somewhere.
You can see where it was last. The map shows the most recent confirmed position, whether that sighting came from your own devices or was relayed by a passing stranger's.
You cannot add a new one. Registering an accessory is still a job for the iPhone or iPad, through Add Other Item. The watch manages what already exists.
You do not get Precision Finding. iDownloadBlog notes that a newer watch can run Precision Finding on Apple's own tags. That feature rides on ultra wideband radios at both ends, and a Bluetooth tracker has none, so the watch shows a map and plays a sound instead of drawing an arrow. We have written about what losing that arrow really costs.
There is a practical reason the wrist suits ringing more than reading. The screen is small, as iDownloadBlog itself concedes about the app, so a glance at a map is fine and a serious search is better run from the phone. It is the same division of labour as using a Mac to find a tag from your desk.
How Orbit Tag helps
Orbit Tag shows up in that consolidated list without anything being asked of it. Add it once from a phone on iOS 14.5 or newer and it turns up wherever that Apple Account is signed in, watch included. No second app, no separate login, nothing to update on the tag when Apple updates the watch.
The hardware side is deliberately dull. A CR2032 coin cell lasts roughly two years and you can swap it yourself. The shell is IP67 sealed, 36.3 mm square and 9 mm thick, with the key ring hole moulded in. The speaker answers between 80 and 100 dB over a Bluetooth link of up to 60 m, and beyond that the Find My network carries an encrypted position home. Apple only: no Android, and no ultra wideband.

Frequently asked
Does a third-party tracker appear on the watch automatically? Yes, provided the watch is paired to an iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account. The Items list is drawn from the account, so anything registered on the phone is already there.
Can I get a left-behind alert on my wrist? Separation alerts are raised by the iPhone that holds the Bluetooth link with the tag, and the watch surfaces that notification like any other. The setting itself lives on the phone, per item, as covered in our guide to left-behind alerts.
Do I need the new Apple Watch Series 12 for this? No. The single Find My app comes with watchOS 27, which runs on Series 9 and later, Ultra 2 and later and the SE 3. Buying new hardware adds nothing to what a Bluetooth tag can do.
